Nestle, Pringles, Vivi and other foods were detected containing genetically modified ingredients but no packaging related labels

Beijing, May 11th, 2015: The report on genetically modified foods sold by supermarkets of the North Greenfield Plaza, released by the International Environmental Protection Organization Greenpeace today, shows that over 30% of the sample samples tested contained genetically modified components, including Pleasant potato chips, Vivivita-type soy milk, and Nestle's egg milk stars, etc. However, none of these products have any genetically modified signs on their packaging. Greenpeace called on the Ministry of Agriculture to improve GM labeling regulations and regulations, strengthen supervision, give the public full rights to know about GM issues, and ensure that consumers` legal rights in food choices are protected.

"Without the logo, there is no possibility of choice," said Wang Wei, director of the Greenpeace Food and Agriculture Project. "People are consuming genetically modified food without knowing it."

Greenpeace conducted random sampling of foods containing rice, soy, and corn components in major supermarkets in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shanghai from January to March 2015, including domestic and imported foods. There are many domestic and foreign brands, such as PINK, Nestle, and Vivi were sent to independent third-party laboratories for testing of genetically modified components. Among the 43 foods spotted and tested, 14 samples were found to contain genetically modified components, accounting for more than 30% (33%) of the samples. In particular, 2 of the 9 Nestlé-branded foods sampled contain genetically modified ingredients. In addition, nearly 40% (36%) of imported foods that are generally considered [high-end and safe" by consumers have been detected containing genetically modified ingredients, such as Pringles chips.

All of the above-mentioned foods containing the genetically modified components were not clearly identified. [At present, the proliferation of foods containing GM ingredients but not indicated in the market indicates the dereliction of duty by the Ministry of Agriculture. At the same time, the opaqueness of the Ministry of Agriculture in the disclosure of genetically modified information has led some consumers to launch actions to defend the right to know and choose." Wang Say it.

Earlier this year, following the case of Huang Leping`s lawyer and citizen Yang Xiaolu`s filing of an administrative litigation against the [Ministry of Agriculture" on [opening of genetically modified information", on February 10th, Beijing Yipai Law Firm filed an [Application for GM Crops Research Status quo to the Ministry of Agriculture. Administrative lawsuits involving violations of penalties are formally filed in the court. Less than six months later, the Ministry of Agriculture became the defendant for the third time, and the reasons for the case involved all involved the disclosure of genetically modified information.

Greenpeace appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture and related departments to speed up the renewal and improvement of genetically modified signs and regulations, remove the illegally-tested genetically modified foods and thoroughly investigate the sources, and effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Greenpeace also hopes that the Ministry of Agriculture and local agricultural administrative departments can openly disclose genetically modified information, give consumers full rights to know about genetically modified issues, and use public opinions as an important basis for formulating laws and regulations.
